Description
Set in beautiful parkland, Rufford Abbey is full of history, from its origins as a 12th Century Cistercian monastery to its period as a Jacobean era family home...
Today, visitors to Rufford Abbey Country Park can still see much of the original monastery buildings from the 400 year occupation by the ‘white monks’, and the varied architecture of the later house is seen in the imposing Tudor-style entrance porch and tower on the western frontage. A restaurant is now housed in the restored kitchen of the Abbey’s remaining Jacobean wing, with many of the original features on show, including an exposed underground well.
Outdoors there is so much to explore with walks through the native woodlands, a lake and beautiful gardens. Family fun is very much at the heart of the park with everything on offer from a play area to adventure golf, archery to boating.
Visitors can choose from a range of places to eat. The converted Coach House Café offers a range of light meals and snacks while Lord Savile’s Kitchen in the restored Victorian kitchen serves a delicious carvery lunch. For those who have enjoyed a walk around the lake, The Mill Café is the perfect spot for a coffee or ice cream.
