Famously the stomping ground of the legendary Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest is an impressive 450-acre country park. As a landmark thousands of years in the making, it is alive with nature, history and folklore waiting to be discovered.
The most famous resident of Sherwood Forest, after Robin Hood himself of course, is the iconic Major Oak - the giant oak where he reputedly hid - attracting thousands of visitors every year. Standing prominently against the Forest's 900 ancient oak trees, it is Britain's biggest oak with its impressive canopy spreading 28 metres, a trunk circumference of 11 metres and an estimated weight of 23 tonnes! It is a spectacle to behold whatever the season.
The Forest offers plenty of walks and trails catering for all fitness levels, interests and durations - from short nature trails to a whole day amongst the ancient oaks. There is even a Robin Hood-themed play area complete with lookout post, swings and rope bridge. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy.
Events are staged throughout the year and cover everything from Robin Hood themed activities to guided walks and nature trails.
