Description
Gaze up to the distinctive octagonal spire and uncover the truth behind the mysterious hole...
This magnificent medieval church, in the heart of Newark, has been a place of worship for over 800 years.
The Church is noted for its tower and octagonal spire, the highest in Nottinghamshire and reputedly the fifth tallest in the UK.
Visitors can look for the hole in the Church's spire, visible from some parts of the town centre. Was this hold made by a musket ball during the Civil War or is that a local myth? Sightseers can decide for themselves!
St Mary Magdalene welcomes everyone to its services and events. With one of the finest and oldest choirs of its type, visitors can also enjoy the Parish Eucharist, Choral Evensong, Choral Evening Prayer and assorted civic services across the year.
The perfect end to a visit is a cup of tea and a slice of cake at the 'St Mary's in the Market Coffee Bar' - offering a tranquil place to sit and relax.
